I love Facebook!
I have reconnected with old friends, keep up with the day-to-day happenings of every person I know in the whole wide world, and sometimes leave supper dishes in the sink till the next morning just to make sure my lengthy News Feed doesn't get away from me.
What's not to love?
One of the neatest things about Facebook has been setting up a Group Page for my extended family. I got roped into it at the last family reunion by a family member who shall remain nameless, named Terry, who thought I would be a grand administrator for a Family Group Page. And I must say I have had a blast. Keeping in touch with cousins, second-cousins, third-cousins, cousins once-twice-three-times-removed (whatever that means) throughout the year rather than once a year at the reunions has been such a blessing to me!!
We have gotten the news of Aunt Faye's hospital stay, along with Kathryn's and Patty's. We have received sad news of deaths and funeral details. We have posted pictures (current and old) and wonderful childhood memories. We have learned details of older loved ones' lives that we never knew or maybe forgot. We have posted dates and deaths of the patriarchs and matriarchs we all love and remember so well (or not-so-well), and have gotten a little better at keeping up with who belongs to who. (Or maybe that's just me who can't seem to keep it all straight since I only see these folks once a year for the two-hour meal, business meeting and auction.) Some live too far away to come to the reunions and getting to know them online has been extremely fun!
My only regret is that, for some bewildering reason, a few people who actually live in this century and are even related to me don't do Facebook. (CAN YOU BELIEVE IT??) I miss getting to know those folks better. And hope that someday they'll discover the delight known as Facebook and join the rest of us in cyberspace as we grow a little closer to those in our blessed bond of family.
I mean, is there anything better than family?
